PACKING LIST FROM LOCAL RENDEZVOUS TRAVEL
Getting closer… What to Pack for Provence…
In late September in the South of France temperatures typically range from the low 60s to mid 70s. People dress more casually than in Paris,
though they still dress up a bit in the evenings. For daily excursions, think layers - always a good idea when traveling during the shoulder
seasons. Also, when you check weather before the trip, make sure that you look up Saint-Remy-de-Provence, not just St. Remy - a town in
northern France with VERY different weather!
MOST IMPORTANT is your US Passport. I suggest you also make a copy and/or take a picture of it.
Here’s a basic list you could tweak to your liking:
• Several shirts - casual for day and perhaps dressier for evening. A couple pairs of pants - nice jeans are fine and worn everywhere in France.
• Maybe a skirt or dress for evenings
• A lightweight sweater or two and/or fleece for cool mornings andevenings
• Yoga/biking/athletic clothing
• Jacket for evenings. Maybe a jean jacket or even one of those very lightweight down jackets that you could scrunch up into a pillow on
the plane.
• Maybe a scarf or two. Those are part of every French woman’s uniform. If you forget, no worries… there are plenty of beautiful scarves at the outdoor markets there! (See our guests Rocky and Anne buying scarves in St. Remy.)
• VERY IMPORTANT: Comfortable walking shoes for daily excursions. Sneakers - (“baskets”) - are fine and actually quite popular with the French. Leave the stilettos at home!
• Sandals, if you’d like, for warmer days.
• Short boots, if you’d like.
• Lightweight rain coat, just in case.
• Swimsuit to dip into the villa’s pool - it’s heated! Sunglasses, sunhat, sunscreen… you get the idea.
• Adapter (with three prongs) to charge phone and any other electronics. (See photo.)
• You might also want to bring a portable phone charger.
• ATM card for Euros - it’s less expensive at the ATM machine than money exchange at the airport or elsewhere.
• Any necessary vitamins, medications, etc.
• Toiletries - don’t pack liquids larger than 3.4 ounces in your carry-on bag. You’ll find great lotions and potions there!
Do not bring a hair dryer. The voltage is different in France. There will be some at each house.
Of course, you’ll want to leave room in your suitcase for purchases. It’s hard to resist the pretty Provençal fabrics, stylish clothing you’ll find at Saint Remy’s chic shops, and food items such as Fleur de Sel, Herbs de Provence, honey, maybe even a bottle of wine or two….
Some of our guests have even purchased an extra bag in France to lug all their purchases home.
Finally, if you want to do laundry, there are machines at the villa and we’ll provide some detergent.
Here’s that adapter you’ll need:
C’est tout. Happy packing!
